Schreiner ProTech, a Germany-based manufacturer of innovative functional labels with value-added benefits for the automotive and engineering-based industries, has enhanced its Film-Based Cover (FBC) series, which provide protection for electronic component housings. The FBC portfolio was developed as a value-added alternative to conventional injection-molded covers.

Component housings made of plastic are typically closed with injection molded covers. Unfortunately, this option is often associated with high tooling costs, and requires a certain amount of space during transport and installation. By contrast, Schreiner ProTech’s Film-Based Covers consist of a sturdy polyester film precisely applied and reliably connected to the housing via laser welding. The lightweight, flat solutions offer dust- and waterproof resistance against chemical, mechanical, and thermal stress.

However, it is the beyond-closure benefits that further distinguish the Film-Based Covers. Among other value-adds, the FBCs can integrate pressure compensation seals, and are conducive to subsequent steam-jet-resistant TTR printing.

Schreiner ProTech’s Film-Based Covers also help minimize required production line space, reduce initial capital expenditures, and shorten overall cycle times. In addition, the FBCs offer superior radar permeability compared to solid injection-molded covers, making them particularly well suited for applications incorporating sensors.
